CYBERSECURITY

-Durva Waykole (std. X Abhinav Vidyalay)

The beginning of the digital era has opened up a lot of opportunities nowadays. We can do mobile banking, online shopping, booking a hotel room, ordering some dinner, booking a cab, reading news, and books everything in just one click, but it has been rightly said that everything has a price, and the more you connect to digital assets the more is the chance of high risk towards your confidential and sensitive data. Now the question arises how the companies are securing this data and how they are protecting the data from this cyberattack? The answer is cyber security.

What is Cybersecurity?

Cyber security is the body of technologies, processes, and practices designed to protect systems, networks, and programs from unauthorized access which means from small or big cyberattacks or cyber threats, therefore, protecting the organization and individuals.

There are various types of cyber-attacks that you can fall prey to, such as Phishing attacks, Malware attacks, Password attacks, DDoS attacks, MitM attacks, etc. Some of the cyber security tips which can help you to keep your data safe are, the use of anti-virus protection by installing anti-virus software such as Quick Heal,  Norton 360, etc. using network security control devices such as firewalls and IDS, use strong passwords, avoid unknown sites and don’t open any suspicious emails and also be careful on social platforms, don’t randomly share your information to any random site, do Online Banking and confidential work on “HTTPS” sites only. Be overly suspicious, although many things online are secure, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

CIA Triad

CIA stands for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability. The CIA Triad is also referred to as the three pillars of security and most security policies of bigger organizations and even smaller companies are based on these three principles. Confidentiality means keeping your data private or secret. It ensures that only those who are authorized have access to specific information and those who are unauthorized are actively prevented from obtaining access.

Integrity is the assurance that the information is trustworthy and accurate. It involves maintaining data, consistency, and accuracy over its entire lifecycle. Overall integrity is about ensuring that data has not been tampered with and Availability ensures that authorized users should be able to access the data whenever they need to do so. It simply means that networks, systems, and applications are up and running. Therefore, the CIA Triad plays a major role in protecting, safeguarding, and securing our systems against growing cyber threats

Annual Day 2023

After a long hiatus due to covid we finally got most activities on track. The Annual Day function is always a big deal for everyone at Abhinav. It has been a tradition my mother started that the Annual Day will be not a Teacher-managed event, but a Student Initiative. Since when I was a teenager, I was part of this and today 10 years after she passed, I still strive to make it work as she would have. After some hesitation, we began working in early January. I wanted to use an outside choreographer just so that teachers will not be burdened. (They are already struggling with post-covid learning difficulties) But then, an outside guy could never do justice to the Abhinav style of doing things. We always keep in mind that the cultural program should be enjoyable to everyone in the audience and at the same time should display as many of the diverse talents that our students have, as possible.  It was a great relief that my G3 students came to the rescue. Almost all of std 9 and m...

Expression Calculator in Java

Std X CA students: Here is another assignment to be finished before Thursday 24th Apr, 2014, 8 am. Reverse engineer the application I have posted at the FB group - Expression Caculator . i.e. 1. download the file and save in the root of c-drive 2. run it in command prompt using "java -jar c:\exprcalc.jar" 3. enter various expressions to compute like 2 + 3 = (then enter) 4. once you type '=' and a white space and enter, it displays the result. 5. You can take a long expression like 7.5562 / 7.889 + 5 - 12.67 = (then enter) 6. You can type another expression after the result for the previous is shown. 7. It also handles errors well. Figure out the code and paste your answers here as a comment. Hint: It uses a blank for loop ... i.e. for (;;) { here goes the code }to repeat taking many numbers one after the other.
