Let's Run With Our "Strings Attached"!
~ By Navneet Iyer (Std X , Abhinav Vidyalay)
If you are into fitness and love to exercise, then you will have a workout playlist full of high beat songs which help you get in the zone. I bet you that not one of those songs in your playlist will be of the Carnatic genre. Violinist Kumaresh R and veena artist Jayanthi Kumaresh are here to change that with their new album, Run with SA (Strings Attached).
Carnatic music is a genre of music that is usually made up of slow beats and is soft to our ears. It is not suitable for listening when we do intense exercises or running. But Kumaresh R and Jayanthi Kumaresh are here to change that with their newly released 5-track album of Carnatic songs which are just perfect for our workouts. They have mixed Carnatic ragas with modern electronic beats to create songs for fitness buffs who love Carnatic music.
They had this idea struck their wonderful minds while walking in a garden when they saw a lot of people doing their workout and running, “How about creating an album for running, walking, even working out” said Jayanthi
While creating this album, the artists contacted many people who are into fitness to have their opinion on the number of beats per minute they liked in songs they listen to while doing their workout.
The album progresses as you progress in your workout, starting at 160 beats per minute using the ragam, Hamsadhwani for doing warm-up, then gets up to 180 beats per minute using the ragam Nattakurinji when you are at the most intense part in your workout, at last, it mellows down to Kaamas helping in cooling down your body.
Many other such albums are also released by Madrasana, a platform where Carnatic music concerts are organized. It roped up many artists to create these albums which are getting more and more popular these days among Carnatic enthusiasts who are into fitness.
I personally loved this album a lot and it is my current workout album. It gets groovier and faster with time and is refreshing while exercising. A perfectly balanced album leads to a perfectly balanced workout. This is my take while I select songs for workout and this album just fits right.
